North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said that the country will strengthen its “nuclear war arsenal” in order to have “the most powerful army” in the world, reported the official North Korean press.
“By reinforcing our nuclear war arsenal, we must do everything we can to build the most powerful army,” Kim told the ruling Workers’ Party Congress, according to the official KCNA news agency.
The president assured that North Korea concluded its program to develop a nuclear submarine, which he defined as “a strategic turning point,” according to the agencia AFP.
The country’s weapons programs have accelerated since Kim came to power, including the most powerful nuclear bomb to date and missiles capable of reaching the United States.
In the military parade last October, North Korea exhibited its new ICBM, which, according to experts, is the world’s largest liquid fuel capable of traveling on the road.
During the congress, which lasted eight days, Kim argued that the United States is “the main obstacle to the development” of the North Korean “revolution” and the “main enemy” of his country.
“The true intention of its policy towards North Korea will never change, regardless of who is in power,” he added without mentioning President-elect Joe Biden, who will take office in eight days, according to the agency. AFP. (F/T)
