Pachuca, Hgo. A total of 46 people who had contact with the Austrian citizen Selcanovich Seldin, infected with the British strain of Covid-19, were isolated and quarantined, the Hidalgo Health Secretariat reported.
Diana Reyes Gómez, in charge of the Undersecretary of Public Health, announced that of that group, a 45-year-old woman had respiratory disease, while the rest remain in isolation and observation, without presenting symptoms so far.
He added that after investigating the places where Selcanovich was during his visit to Hidalgo, it has been determined that he had contact with approximately 50 people.
Selcanovich Seldin, a 26-year-old mechatronics engineer who was sent two weeks ago from Austria to Pachuca to install a software system for Farmacias Guadalajara, left Vienna airport on March 22 on a Lufthansa airline plane.
During the trip to Mexico, the plane made a stopover in Frankfurt, Germany, at 1:52 p.m., to later arrive in Mexico City at 6:37 p.m.
Then, in a rented car at the Benito Juárez airport in Mexico City, he moved to the state of Hidalgo.
He finally arrived at a hotel in the city of Pachuca at 9:59 p.m. The next day he began to have respiratory symptoms. However, he attended a work meeting with two people, who had already been identified and who after being subjected to various analyzes were ruled out of carrying the disease.
On March 24, Selcanovich Seldin stayed at the hotel where he had contact with 12 other people between 23 and 61 years of age, who were asymptomatic.
It was on March 28 when he presented the intensification of breathing deficiencies and went to a private hospital where they performed a CT scan and a PCR test, which was positive; three days later it was determined that he was a carrier of the English variant B.1.1.7.
At the hospital, the foreigner had contact with 31 people between 21 and 48 years of age, including an employee with initials MHTJ, who worked as a cleaning staff at the hospital, who presented respiratory complications.
The woman’s spouse, her daughter’s daughter and two grandchildren aged 51, 32, 9 and 7, respectively, were subjected to the corresponding tests to detect if they had been infected, but they were negative to the test.
On April 1, Governor Omar Fayad Meneses reported that the Austrian citizen Selcanovich Seldin had been confined with treatment in a medical unit, after he had been detected that he was a carrier of the British strain of Covid-19.
Selcanovich, after being informed of the diagnosis, tried to avoid being hospitalized, but in the end agreed to remain in isolation.
