Lionel Messi fury after the collapse of Barcelona in the loss of the Atletico Madrid Super Cup

Lionel Messi rages after the collapse of the semifinal of the Barcelona Super Cup against Atletico Madrid.

Atletico beat Barcelona 3-2 in Jeddah, with two late goals that scored a showdown against Real Madrid in Sunday’s final.

The defeat increased pressure on Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde after mixed results so far this season.

And Messi blew up “childish” mistakes in Thursday’s Super Cup semi-final, insisting that Barcelona should have seen the game after taking a 2-1 lead just past the hour.

“It’s a shame, we played a great game, after a long time we felt good again, we were in control, dominated and attacked all the time,” Messi told reporters in Goal’s quotes.

Lionel Messi was “wounded” by the defeat of the Barcelona Super Cup against Atletico Madrid

“When we let it slip through some mistakes [Atletico] they were already almost dead. In less than 10 minutes they filmed a game that we should have seen.

“It hurts because it’s a title and we wanted to be in the final and win it.”

It was the second game in a row that Barcelona conceded a late goal, after also doing this to move to a 2-2 draw at Espanyol in their last Liga game last Saturday.

But Messi says Barca should have made sure of victory in Thursday’s clash.

Messi drew for Barcelona before his team took a 2-1 lead

“We showed a different side to what we showed recently against Espanyol and at the end of last year,” he said. “We played well, but unfortunately we didn’t manage to get the win.

“Today we have taken a step forward despite the defeat, but we are aware that we have not done things the way we want.

“We don’t want to make these childhood mistakes again.”
