López-Gatell reproaches political profit with the Covid tragedy – Politics

Mexico City. The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López Gatell, criticized the use opportunist of information for political gain with the tragedy caused by Covid-19 by exceeding 100,000 deaths from the virus in the country.

By participating in the remote forum Experiences and challenges in addressing Covid-19 in Mexico and in Latin American and Caribbean countries, organized in the Senate, stated that these criticisms that have been seen in the past 24 hours “are the projection of petty interests”, of extreme politicization.

Before representatives of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), he said that the results would be different if there were not a society where 50 percent of the population lives in formal conditions of poverty, suffering from obesity and overweight, diabetes and cancers that cause many ills , in addition to the health system devastated by the privatization that occurred in previous governments.

The official acknowledged that the government will have to face several challenges in the immediate future to mitigate the pandemic, which between now and March 2021 will have a new epidemic cycle. The fundamental objective will continue to be to reduce lethality, the most virulent impact that this virus can have.

López-Gatell reiterated that the government will not seek confrontation or unnecessary tension with society, with the use of coercive measures or the public force to reduce infections.

Through a video, the general director of the IMSS, Zoé Robledo, stated that the year is ending, but the pandemic is not, so that institute, which has treated more than half a million infected, will continue with that responsibility; It operated also treating all pediatric patients in the country, guaranteeing the filling of almost 200 million prescriptions per year and administering 14.4 million vaccines against seasonal influenza before the end of 2020.

At the meeting, Cristian Roberto Morales Fuhrimann, PAHO / WHO representative in Mexico, acknowledged that, despite the good news about Covid-19 vaccines, we must be realistic, it will be very difficult for them to take place during 2021 , group immunity is achieved.

He recommended that a component of the strategy in all the nations of the region, in the medium term, be primary health care.

For his part, James Fitzgerald, director of the PAHO / WHO Department of Health Systems and Services, stated that the situation it’s quite serious. He pointed out that Covid-19 has also affected the mobilization of resources in Latin America, since it has been observed that, between 80 and 90 percent, of the health budget has already been spent in many countries in the region.
