Man arrested on charges of attempted murder after a car hit a man who was walking in Blaina

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a morning accident with a pedestrian.

A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital following the accident on High Street, Blaina, Blaenau Gwent, at 12.35 pm on Thursday 2 January.

He has been taken to hospital for treatment and his condition is currently stable.

A section of the road, which has been closed since the early hours, remains closed to all pedestrians and traffic in both directions.

The area is isolated

Hope Street, Cross Street and Church Street, which are adjacent to High Street, were also closed this morning while agents were investigating.

Gwent police officers remain in the area.

A force spokesman confirmed that a 25-year-old Blaina man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody.

The police appeal for witnesses

A spokesman for the Gwent police said: “We appeal that anyone who has witnessed or may have information about this incident can come forward.

“Call Gwent Police at 101 or send a direct message to our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter, citing reference 2000001314.

“Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800555111.”
