Man Utd beneficiary Odion Ighalo offered a £ 400k contract extension per week to ward off transfer interest

Odion Ighalo was reportedly offered a £ 400k a week contract from Shanghai Shenhua to try to convince him to stay in the club instead of joining Manchester United permanently.

The Nigerian striker made the surprising transfer on loan to Old Trafford in January, but despite many wondering if he was good enough, it has been an absolute success so far, scoring four times and creating an assist in eight games before the season was suspended.

Head of state Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have been so impressed with the thirty-year-old that he has already been persuaded to sign him permanently, and Ighalo is also believed to be excited to sign a contract with the club he supported as a child.

But according to Sky Sports Shanghai is desperate for the prize, and has made him a profitable offer to tempt the player to dismiss United.

The current Ighalo agreement expires in December 2022 and the new contract offer would extend it for another two years until December 2024.

It remains to be seen what he decides, but there is no doubt that United has a special place in his heart, with Ighalo describing it as a “dream come true” to play for the club.

Former United Rio defender Ferdinand racked up praise during an Instagram Live on Tuesday and said he denied any doubts.

“Eight games, three starts, four goals and an assist. All of you people who say ‘What are we doing by signing him?’ I was one of them, I have to admit it, “said Ferdinand.

“It shocked me to see what he did, and it didn’t turn them into world hitters, but they needed something and brought it.
