Manager rules out Celtic move for £ 10m in January

Fraser Forster is going nowhere in January with Ralph Hasenhuttl downplaying renewed speculation linking Southampton’s bench warmer with a return to Celtic, as reported by Hampshire Live.

The former England international must be wondering if he parked his car in an old graveyard before walking under a ladder on his return to Southampton training ground in the summer.

Fraser was a on-loan sensation at Celtic last season, producing a series of gravity-defying saves as he rediscovered the form that once made him a true Premier League star on the South Coast.

He even saved a penalty from Alfredo Morelos when Celtic somehow snatched the victory from Rangers in the 2019 Scottish League Cup final.

But since returning to England after his loan period ended, Forster has been a £ 10 million bench warmer again. And, with Alex McCarthy in good shape between the clubs of the Saints, that is unlikely to change anytime soon.

“(Forster) will be staying with us for now. Alex McCarthy is our number one as he has developed a lot lately, ”explains Hasenhuttl, former head of RB Leipzig.

The Saints boss’ response came after Hampshire Live suggested Celtic might again make a move for a goalie who has been wearing a clover on his chest on and off for a decade.

Vasilis Barkas, the £ 4.7 million rookie, has endured a difficult adjustment period after arriving from AEK Athens, while current number one Scott Bain is never a million miles from a high-profile mistake.

Southampton sent Angus Gunn on loan to Stoke City in the summer, so in truth, they would never let Forster go as well.
