“With clear objectives, they started preparing for the race and it was not easy at all. The long-term training sessions in summer were the prelude to what was going to happen in April. But the pandemic arrived and their practice sessions had to be modified, they had to adapt to this new “coviedaneity” or normality. If there is something that was important throughout this stage, it was that they never stopped dreaming and were active in their homes. And when physical activity was enabled in public spaces, they were able to run again, always wearing the mask or chinstrap, the new friend. They were five months of hard work and dedication ”, said the physical trainer.
And the moment of truth arrived for Florencia and Ricardo and a whole work group: to fulfill the objective of running the largest marathon in the world. “They had 24 hours to be able to complete the route. It was a Sunday that was very cold and windy, it pretended to be London, but this was not an impediment to reach the goal. Ricardo and Florencia made the tour in a programmed circuit after 4 hours and five minutes (4:05) under all the established protocols. They ran the 42,195 meters through an application provided by the event organizers, who were monitoring everything from the marathon headquarters, ”Lucci synthesized.
It was a difficult road and a lot of effort, especially in these times, for athletes it was a lot of effort and in quarantine time with a virtual marathon is to stand out and stand out. “It is a moment of joy and satisfaction, and we also want to highlight the participation of family, colleagues and friends. They all made motivational videos and were present in some sections of the journey, accompanying them despite the weather and the day. Friendship, camaraderie, solidarity and group spirit prevailed in every step, in every kilometer to make it a unique and unforgettable marathon. Florencia and Ricardo always dreamed of it and they achieved it ”, closed the head of the Rosario team that participated in the London marathon.
“The feeling of having participated in one of the most important marathons in the world is wonderful. The idea was to run in London, I was registered but the pandemic changed the whole landscape. And an alternative was to run it virtually and in Rosario. We thought the idea was very good, with all the corresponding protocols. They were five months of constant preparation but all that effort paid off. We managed to comply with the guidelines and we were already registered to be able to be in the 2021 or 2022 marathon in London, it would be a reward for our effort, ”said Ricardo España.
For her part, Florencia Schlie, very excited, referred to the moment she lived. “Running a marathon is always rewarding and fills you with pride, but particularly these 42 kilometers run under this modality and in the context in which we have to live, I could say that they were magical and very special. At all times we feel accompanied, supported, encouraged and loved by our teacher Leonel Lucci and the entire group of friends that is part of the Leonel Lucci Team ”, said the Rosario marathoner.
Schlie gave the details about the virtual marathon. “The truth is that the modality of running in a virtual way, personally, is much more comfortable, since one takes it in a much more relaxed and distended way for a matter that does not feel any type of pressure, for the fact that one chooses how to run it, how to do it, at the time that one wants and in the way that he likes best. I liked it, since it was able to be put together and planned very well and everything worked out in the best way to enjoy it at all times ”said the athlete.
Regarding training, Florencia pointed out: “The training was relatively short compared to other marathons. We never stopped training despite the months of confinement, as the teacher adapted the plans constantly and daily. He was modifying them according to the regulations and / or protocols that had to be complied with. Basically we did a lot of functional gymnastics through Zoom with schedules and days to meet. Also in the aerobic part we work a lot with a roller bike and with walks within the allowed radius, circuit with stairs and adding steps in daily life. So at the time of going out for a run, the aerobic capacity was not completely lost, being able to pick up a rhythm quickly and feel very comfortable ”.
Finally, the runner highlighted the position she obtained in the London marathon. “I finished with the third best time in the women’s division and the tenth best time in the general classification. We did an excellent marathon and I hope to be able to run it in 2021. We have to wait for the draw and see if it will be for 2021 or else it will be for 2022. I also want to highlight my colleague Ricardo, with whom I was lucky to share several marathons and we are going for more ” Schlie closed.
