A FEMALE warder at one of Britain's toughest jails had sex in a cupboard during an 18-month affair with a murderer.
But married mum-of-two Rachel Welburn, 39, was behind bars herself, starting a one-year sentence.
She broke up with Daniel Crompton, 29 – given life in 2013 for killing 87-year-old Frank Worsley war hero in a burglary.
Welburn and Crompton puts in 2016 at Durham's Frankland Prison, where inmates include Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe, Milly Dowler's killer Levi Bellfield and Soham murderer Ian Huntley.
Her husband David was a fellow officer there.
Prosecutor Robin Patton told Durham crown court: "The attraction was said by both to be instantaneous.
'INTENSE SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP'
"They embarked on an intense sexual relationship in which both professed love.
"They had intercourse in a cleaning cupboard."
Welburn gave Crompton intimate pictures, but they were discovered.
They agreed Crompton would apply to a full Sutton, York, so the affair would be less likely to be detected.
She visited him there despite the risk of being recognized and told his family of her feelings.
When the relationship cooled, Crompton realised Welburn was not going to dump her husband and reported the affair.
