An upset mom paid tribute to her “beautiful” daughter who was stabbed to death by “a monster” in front of her daughter.
Beautician Melissa Belshaw, 32, died of “catastrophic” injuries she suffered in a disastrous assault outside her home in Wigan, Greater Manchester, yesterday afternoon.
Her 13-year-old daughter witnessed her mother’s injury while two brave men tried to stop the attack by causing one of them, a 40-year-old neighbor, with injuries.
The upset neighbors who witnessed the stab say that a man broke into Melissa’s house with a golf club before the terrifying attack poured into the street, reports the Sun.
Jean Mulvaney, heartbroken, said that “a monster” had taken his daughter away.
We are testing a new site:
The 58-year-old said: “She was a beautiful child and the most important person in my life. Now a monster has taken her away from me.
“My two children – Lee and Nathan – are upset. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here now, I’d be with Melissa.
“I just hope we have some justice now.”
Mulvaney added that Melissa was “so smart” and was planning to open her The Lash Room beauty salon.
The neighbor who tried to confront Melissa’s killer is in stable condition in the hospital.
A second neighbor who intervened and helped get Melissa’s daughter out of the house was unharmed.
Witnesses reported that mom asked for help for “blood curdling screams” when she was stabbed in front of her daughter, who managed to call the police.
Melissa died on the scene.
A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Today, at a press conference, Greater Manchester Police Superintendent Chris Bridge praised the men for their “extreme courage and courage.”
He said, “This was an extremely distressing scene and their actions have been incredibly courageous.
“For them, running towards danger, without thinking about their personal safety, is extremely commendable.
“If it had not been for their intervention, we could have looked for other victims. Even the daughter could have been seriously injured.
“We often use the word” hero “, but I think the public would support me in saying that their actions were heroic to say the least.
“One of the men – a man in his forties – has been stabbed several times and currently in hospital. Fortunately, his condition is believed to be stable now and we would all like to wish him a speedy recovery.”
Superintendent Bridge also praised the actions of Melissa’s daughter, who claimed to receive specialist support following the “horrendous” incident.
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the murder to come forward because it may have key information.
Superintendent Bridge added: “First, I would like to reiterate that our thoughts are with the woman’s family as they begin to come to terms with this tragedy.
“This is a harrowing episode in which a young woman lost her life in the most brutal circumstances. Although nothing can ever bring her back, I hope our efforts will provide the woman’s loved ones with some degree of comfort. We will follow every line of investigation to our disposition in the pursuit of justice.
“At this stage it is believed that the woman and the offender knew each other and as such I would like to reassure the community that there is no belief that there is a wider threat.
“There will continue to be a greater police presence in the area and I would recommend anyone with doubts or questions to speak to these officers because they are there to provide support and help with any problems people may have.
“While we have a man in custody, I would continue to appeal to those who think they can hold vital information.
“It was a sunny afternoon and there were a number of people who were in the area.
“We are aware that there are people who have not come forward at the moment and who have been making movies on their phones or other devices. Possibly they have vital evidence that could prove crucial for this investigation.
“I would like to urge those people, if you have information, please come forward for the sake of this lady and her family.”
