Boston Celtics has been very calm in the last half about possible transfers, since obviously they understand that they already have the necessary potential and that it is a matter of making a good draft to make the big jump. But nevertheless, it’s impossible not to imagine a bomb about to explode in the NBA coming from Danny Ainge.
The general manager has shown over the years that he can surprise from one day to the next. There is no doubt that he is evaluating the best possible options, among which is surely Russell Westbrook, who asked for the trade. The guard is not exactly a player with many offers at the moment and the Celtics can take advantage of that.
The Houston Rockets is where Westbrook doesn’t want to be and they would be very lucky to receive players from Boston. It may not be the decision that Boston fans like, but acquiring Russell would give them a blast like no one-on-one team. Do not forget: I would be next to Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and company.
What would lead Russell Westbrook to the Boston Celtics
The Celtics should trade two players who would cause a lot of damage to the fans: Marcus Smart, the best defender in the NBA, and Kemba Walker, who was committed to the organization from the beginning. It wouldn’t be easy to let them go, but they’d be getting Westbrook coming off averaging. 27.2 points, 7 assists and 7.9 rebounds per game.
The fear that Russell generates is the relationship he has had with some of his teammates, as well as if he can adapt to a team game like the Boston Celtics where the ball will not be 35 minutes in your hands. Further, Brad Stevens must make him understand that defending is just as important as attacking. With that done, it’s a win win.
