New Boba Fett comic, crossover with regular Marvel series

The last weeks of 2020 were historic in the Star Wars galaxy for many characters like Mando, Grogu, Ahsoka Tano or Luke Skywalker. But if there is a character who saw his resurrection in the canon in those weeks, literally and metaphorically speaking, he was the greatest bounty hunter in the galaxy: Boba Fett. Later we learned of the existence of Boba Fett’s book, the new Disney + series starring Jango Fett’s son. And today, already fully into 2021, we have new news: Charles Soule will count in a new comic Boba’s story after leaving Bespin with Han Solo frozen in carbonite aboard the Slave I.

24 hours ago the official Star Wars website published a mysterious teaser poster in which we saw Boba Fett. It included the Marvel seal, which implied that it was a comic, and the legend «Boba Fett … Nowhere to Hide ”(“ Boba Fett… Nowhere to hide ”).

On its official website, the production company announces that in 2019 the writer Charles Soule (author of The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, which Planet will publish next May) created a great presentation document for Marvel’s flagship series, Star Wars. It outlined his plans for the title, but also included a specific story that he was eager to write. In the words of the author himself:

Clearly, Boba Fett is not taking Han Solo directly to Jabba’s palace. Something had to happen between that time between ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’. And I was like, ‘I’d like to tell that story, and I’d like it to be about Boba Fett and what happens to him.’

And this story is going to be told. Specifically in the form of a comic miniseries, composed of five numbers and which will be titled War of the Bounty Hunters, an epic crossover in Marvel lore that will reveal what Boba Fett experienced on his journey to deliver Solo to Jabba the Hutt.

This first story will be published (in English) from May 5 to October, starting with War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha #1 by Soule and artist Steve McNiven, then spanning the entire post-Marvel Marvel timeline. Star Wars Episode V: The Empires Strike Back. This number prior to the miniseries will constitute an event crossover with the regular series published by the House of Ideas, that is, Star Wars, Bounty Hunters, Darth Vader Y Dr. Aphra. Already in the month of June the monthly publication of each of the five issues of War of the Bounty Hunters of Soule and Luke Ross, who will be the anchor of the story.

We also inform you that the Twitter account Star Wars Splash Page has published the covers of each of these 4 issues of the crossover of War of the Bounty Hunters with the four regular Marvel series we mentioned above. Specifically, they are the following numbers:

  1. War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha 1: Prelude «Precious Cargo» (05/05/2021)
  2. Star Wars 13: Prelude «The Hunt for Han Solo» (12/05/2021)
  3. Bounty Hunters 12: Prelude «Target Solo» (19/05/2021)

Soule states in the Lucasfilm statement that he believes this is the best job he has perhaps done so far.

“The main story we are dealing with is a criminal epic centered on Boba Fett, which involves him taking on some of the greatest criminals in the galaxy. Some like Jabba the Hutt, Black Sun, Darth Vader, and many others, like different factions, etc, that I think will be really interesting for the fans. It’s basically Boba Fett, alone, against all these people. “

And what could make Boba Fett face the worst in the galaxy? There can only be one thing.

“Boba Fett is in Han Solo’s possession at the end of Episode V, and at the beginning of War of the Bounty Hunters he is not. And he’s going to do everything he can to get it back, whatever happens. It doesn’t matter who gets in his way.

While the inspiration for the story comes from Soule, he is quick to point out that the overall event is a true collaboration between him and several of Marvel’s Star Wars creators, including writers Greg Pak (Darth Vader), Alyssa Wong (Dr. Aphra) y Ethan Sacks (Bounty Hunters).

“My co-authors of this story and all the great artists we are working with make a fantastic team. This could have come from my brain to some extent, but we’re all adding things to it, and we’re all adding really interesting things to it. Everyone can tell their own story within this general plot of Boba Fett trying to get what is his. “

War of the Bounty Hunters It will be the biggest Star Wars story what Marvel has counted so far. And while he can’t say much, Soule promises he will make an impact.

“’War of the Bounty Hunters’ is a story about Boba Fett doing his thing, but it becomes something much bigger, and that’s what the best comic book crossovers and great stories do. They tell a great story in themselves, but they are also the beginning of something and open many new doors. And this story of course will.

From what they have posted on Lucasfilm, it appears it wasn’t exactly a smooth ride that Boba Fett and Han Solo took from Cloud City to Tatooine.

Are you looking forward to getting your hands on this miniseries of the most famous bounty hunter from the Core to the Outer Rim? It certainly looks like it’s going to tell a fascinating story about one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars saga. And does it give you the feeling that this story sounds familiar to you? It is possible that this is the case for the most advantaged within the old Expanded Universe from the time of George Lucas at the forefront of the saga. At the end of the 90s a trilogy of books entitled The Bounty Hunter Wars, written by KW Jeter, and recounted the events involving Boba Fett and other bounty hunters after his escape from the Sarlacc shaft after the destruction of Jabba’s barge.

Additionally, chronologically this new Boba Fett story is set in the time and event frame similar to where his own story was found within Shadows of the Empire, with Han Solo frozen in carbonite and on his way to Tatooine to deliver him to the all-powerful Jabba the Hutt.
