On Sunday, a city in the Inner Mongolia region of China sent the alert a day after a hospital reported a case of suspected bubonic plague. The city health committee of Bayan Nur has issued a third level alarm which is the second lowest in the four level system.
The third alarm prohibits the hunting and consumption of animals that could bring about the plague.
It also urges the public to report any suspected cases of plague or fever that have no clear cause.
Finally, the alert asks the public to report any sick or dead marmots.
This occurs when four plague cases were reported from Inner Mongolia last November.
Among them were two people with lung plague which is a fatal case of the plague.
A couple died of bubonic plague reportedly last year in Bayan-Ulgii, western Mongolia, after eating raw meat.
The health committee said that the alert period will continue until the end of 2020.
Their statement stated: “There is currently a risk that a human plague epidemic will spread to this city.

The CDC states that bubonic plague is usually the result of an infected flea bite.
Once a person is infected, the bacteria multiply in a lymph node and if not treated effectively they can spread to other parts of the body.
Plague cases are reportedly not unusual in China.
However, outbreaks have become increasingly rare.
According to Reuters, from 2009 to 2018, China reported 26 cases and 11 deaths from the plague.
The news of the bubonic plague alert comes shortly after the researchers identified a new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic.
Although the scientists said that this is not an immediate problem, they also stressed that the new virus has “all the hallmarks” of adapting to infected humans.
The flu strain is carried by pigs and has caused concern as it may mutate to spread easily from person to person.
If the tension changes, researchers have warned that it could trigger a global pandemic.
Writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal, the researchers said that measures to control the virus should be promptly implemented.
