Arsenal are reported to have contacted Sporting Lisbon to sign a contract to sign talented playmaker Pedro Goncalves.
The 22-year-old has earned rave reviews in Portugal this season, having filled the void left vacant by Bruno Fernandes. Having arrived from Famalicao over the summer, Goncalves has 15 goals and five assists to his name. His form has led him to the sidelines of the Portuguese team.
In fact, his performances have already led to speculation linking him to estrangement. Having made comparisons with Fernandes, Goncalves has been mentioned as a possible Manchester United target.
Despite signing a five-year contract upon arrival, Sporting appears to be facing a battle to hold on to the attacker. The midfielder, who can also operate from the wing, has also become Arsenal’s target.
According to A Bola, the Gunners have been studying Goncalves closely for the past few months. Now, the Portuguese media affirms that Arsenal have put a firm offer on the table to test their determination.
Although the amount Arsenal allegedly offered has not been disclosed, it appears that signing the 22-year-old will not be easy. Contract with Sporting until the summer of 2025, Goncalves has a termination clause of 60 million euros in his contract.
Furthermore, Arsenal will likely only go after the Portuguese star if their search for Martin Odegaard ends in failure. The Norwegian has impressed since he came on loan and the Gunners hope to sign him for good.
In fact, technical director Edu can convince Real Madrid to sell them the Norwegian. A recent report has suggested that the Arsenal playmaker on loan you have indicated where you want to play next season.
However, A Bola insists that Goncalves is a player to Edu’s liking. They suggest that a major offer could secure their signature and persuade Sporting to sell.
A move to the Emirates would mean a return to English football for the player. He previously played for the Wolves, making just one appearance in the 2018/19 season before returning to his homeland.

“This season we see him in a more advanced role, closer to the goal zone, with more goal participation.
