Nicola Sturgeon announces a new coronavirus death in Scotland when cases rise to 18,259

The latest data revealed that a person died in Scotland overnight due to coronavirus, which means that the hospital’s death toll has risen to 2,486.

The number of positive Covid-19 cases has increased to 18,259, an increase of eight over yesterday’s data.

The number of people being treated for confirmed or suspected cases of the virus in hospital is 785 with 17 ICU patients.

Yesterday there were three deaths in Scotland which saw the end of four deadless days in hospitals across the country.

Nicola Sturgeon announced the latest figures today

Friday was the first weekday since March when Scotland did not register new coronavirus deaths.

But new high-profile coronavirus cases have been discovered in Scotland today.

Two RAF Lossiemouth contractors are isolated and one player from the Aberdeen Football Club first team proved positive about the bug.

It comes when a decision is made on air bridges from the UK to Europe.

Ministers will publish a list of countries where people can enter and leave without having to quarantine for 14 days.

The prime minister has complained that he has not been consulted by Westminster on the matter and will make a decision separately on Scottish airports.

Tomorrow Nicola Sturgeon will announce if he will release the two-meter social spacing rule in Scotland

Beer gardens and outdoor restaurant areas will open by July 6, giving a boost to summer spirits.

The five-mile visit restriction appears to be lifted on July 3.

From 13 July, outdoor contact sports for children and the opening of non-essential shops outside shopping centers will be allowed.

Two days later, hairdressers are expected to reopen.

Final decisions on moving to Phase 3 will be made in line with the quarterly review cycle required by law, scheduled for 9 July.

Some measures also went into effect across Scotland with face coatings becoming mandatory for public transport.

The places of worship may reopen for private prayer, but hygiene measures will be put in place.

Marriages and civil unions have also returned to Scotland.

But they must follow the same social distance rules as any other gathering – be kept outdoors and have no more than eight guests.

As a result, there hasn’t been a big rush to hold the ceremonies that were postponed when the coronavirus first hit in March, but a minimum of couples are making it official.
