Odsonne Edouard’s Celtic sweat as a second gateway to France’s senior team will cause a headache in the Champions League

Defendant Odsonne Edouard could miss Celtic’s Euro qualifiers next summer after being lined up to lead France to Olympic glory.

The Hoops hitman is red-hot in his homeland after qualifying Florian Mourice’s French under-21 scoring record with his double against Switzerland, bringing his tally to 15 goals in just 10 appearances.

Edouard helped fire baby Bleus to Euro next March and June, but has been assigned a key role with the under-23 group heading to the Tokyo Games.

The delayed Olympics have been scheduled for July 23 to August 8, right in the middle of the scheduled dates for the Euro Cup qualifiers.

Celtic are likely to be in the race for the Champions League group stage, even if they don’t get 10 in a row.

Scotland will have two spots for tournie glamor with the Premiership runners-up in the second qualifying round stage and the champions bowing in the third, with only two draws needed to get to the big moment.

The Hoops will likely have to cope without their star forward, and the French delegation is expected to leave early for the Far East.

Edouard is under contract until 2022 and has been offered an exit at the end of this season, having admitted that he will consider his options once the record-setting campaign comes to an end.

But Celtic would love to tie him to a longer deal, but could be willing to cash in on various clubs across the continent that control the £ 30 million qualifying leader.
