President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that starting next week, no later than February 16, he will start the mass vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in older adults.
“There will be enough doses. We are already going to begin the massive national vaccination campaign throughout the country. We are going to report on this campaign on Sunday in Oaxaca, but I can tell you that from next week we will start“, Said the president.

The first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are expected to arrive in Mexico this Sunday.

“We have already signed enough contracts for the acquisition of the vaccine, that we do not stop, that already starting next week we continue to begin to vaccinate first the elderly and then the rest of the population,” said the president.
Currently Mexico already has five vaccine authorizations for emergency use, after approval Cansino Bio and Sinovac.
From CanSino the purchase is 35 million doses, while with Sinovac it is 10 million doses.
The rest of the schemes are from Pfizer (34 million 400 thousand doses); AstraZeneca (79 million 430 thousand); Sputnik V (24 million) and the COVAX initiative (25 million 558 thousand).
On February 2, the federal government enabled pre-registration for older adults over 60 years of age.
According to the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, as soon as the arrival dates of more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are defined, older adults will receive a call indicating the place and date on which they will be immunized.
