Roundabouts on Lisburn Road in Rossmoyne and Arcona in Lower Allen Township are now open. Yesterday, the barriers were removed and the roundabouts officially opened. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will remove the turnouts on Monday, November 11th. This project was announced in 2018 to improve intersection safety. Earlier in 2019, PennDOT released data on reducing accident-related injuries: 90% reduction in bicycle accidents, 75%, 30-40% of accidents involving pedestrians and 10% of accidents. 29 additional roundabouts have been installed on national roads and more than 40 others are in the design phase. During peak hours, roundabouts speed up and facilitate the flow of traffic, as only drivers must give way until a gap becomes available, waiting for a traffic light.
