Rafa Benitez has stopped the ridiculous remarks made by Rio Ferdinand by insisting that the Newcastle United fans have enough intelligence to see former Manchester United and England star talk nonsense.

Ferdinand tried to claim that Newcastle was debt free and fans should thank Ashley for his efforts at St James's Park.

The comments were, however, hit by the fans of Geordie with a big setback.

When asked about the comments, Benitez said with a smile, "Two things, our followers are pretty smart.

"Second, I have to concentrate on my own business."

Benitez was also asked if he met Ashley after the game after visiting the owner in Chelsea.

He said, "I did not see him, I work with Lee Charnley, that's it."

Benitez is not showing any public frustration of missing signatures and has been asked to come to him.

He said, "Reality is a difficult month in January.
