Panama reaches 145,309 cases of covid-19 and 2,867 deaths

Panama, Nov 14 (EFE) .- Panama added 832 new cases of covid-19 and 11 deaths from the disease this Saturday, making a total of 145,309 confirmed infections and 2,867 deaths in 252 days of pandemic in the country, reported the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
The Health entity indicated in its daily report that to date there are 797 hospitalized, of which 651 are in the general ward and 146 in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
The number of patients who have recovered from the disease reaches 124,271, with 1,042 in the last 24 hours.
Isolated in their homes with mild symptoms and symptoms, 16,823 people remain, and another 551 have been transferred to hotels that function as hospitals temporarily.
In Panama, since the first contagion was reported on March 9, 750,055 tests have been carried out to diagnose the covid, which has a fatality rate of 2% in the country, one of the lowest in the region.
The tests per million inhabitants amount to 176,598, with 5,551 in the last 24 hours, which show a positivity of 15.1%.
The report indicates that deaths according to age range are concentrated among people aged 60 to 70 years (1,386) and over 80 (732).
Likewise, the provinces of Panama, where the capital is located, and the neighboring Panama West, are the areas of the country with the highest incidence of cases, with 69,628 and 25,600, respectively.
Since last October 12, Panama has been rehearsing a “new normal”, with almost all economic activities reactivated and minimum restrictions on mobility, a scenario in which the disease may rebound, as recognized by health authorities.
Since Panama reopened the Tocumen International Airport on October 12, 10,141 tests have been carried out to detect covid, with 202 passengers who, upon entering the country through said air terminal, the country’s main one, were positive in the test.
Panama is one of the few countries that requires a negative covid-19 test to enter the national territory, said the Minsa.
Since last Wednesday, restrictions on mobility began to be applied in two towns in the central area of ​​the country due to an upturn in infections, as part of a contingency plan to stop the trend, which threatens to reverse in the economic reopening.
The Minister of Health of Panama, Luis Francisco Sucre, asked the regional health directors to continue with the traceability and sampling processes to detect more cases of covid, despite the effects of the weather conditions that are verified in the country.
