The UK Prime Minister said Friday it was time for the UK to “prepare” for a zero deal with Brexit on January 1st.
“Unless there is a fundamental change in approach, we should go for the Australian solution,” said Boris Johnson, using the government’s preferred euphemism for a “no-deal Brexit”.
He had previously stated that the UK would withdraw from the talks if an agreement was not reached by October 15.
On Friday, the EU Council said it was “disappointed” with the lack of progress in the negotiations.
However, the council said talks will continue in the coming weeks, a proposal that has caused anger within the UK government.
