Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris held its first Mass since the April fire that ravaged the roof of the building and caused the collapse of its masterpiece, the spire.

Saturday Mass at the Gothic building was celebrated by Bishop Michel Aupetit, Archbishop of Paris, while the number of spectators was reduced.

For security reasons, only about 30 people; mainly priests, canons and church employees attended the service. Some of the workers hired to rebuild the building were also present.

Participants were forced to wear a helmet for service, despite fears about the stability of some parts of the building.

Investigators believe that an electrical short circuit was the most likely cause of the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral.

The French president Emmanuel Macron has set a goal of rebuilding the cathedral in just five years, which some experts consider impossible to achieve.
