Memphis Depay has announced that Laurent Blanc has tried to sign him when he was responsible for the French champion Paris Saint-Germain.

The Lyon striker spoke with reporters following the Netherlands' 3-1 win over Northern Ireland in the Euro 2020 qualifier. The 25-year-old scored two goals and finished fifth in the competition.

And Depay has claimed that PSG has been very interested in its services in the past, as Blanc was in charge of the Parc des Princes from 2013 to 2016.

He said, as quoted by L & # 39; Facilities: "He (Blanc) wanted to buy me from PSG during his time."

The Dutchman began his professional career with PSV Eindhoven before joining Manchester United in 2015, and it is likely that PSG's interest came at that time.

Blanc won the league three seasons in a row during his time with the Ligue 1 powerhouse, while also securing a home-threefold two seasons in a row.

He would leave the club, however, at the end of the 2015/16 season, suggesting that a failure of the quarter-final phase of the Champions League has ultimately cost his job.

Blanc has since retired from management, but has now taken over the pole position in Lyon, where he will finally work with Depay after apparently trying to sign him earlier in his career.

After moving from United to Lyon in 2017, Depay was one of the best offensive players in Europe, scoring 38 goals in 96 Ligue 1 games.

However, they have made a poor start to the new season and are in 14th place in the table, having won only two of their nine games so far. Sylvinho was fired due to poor results.

When the Brazilian retired, Depay added, "I feel bad for him, the bad results were not his fault."

The name of Arsene Wenger was also linked to the job when Lyon wanted to return to the European qualifying places, while the president of the Jean-Michel Aulas association claimed that Jose Mourinho had rejected the position.
