Santiago de Chile, Jan 13 (EFE) .- The Colombian coach Reinaldo Rueda signed this Wednesday the settlement that separates him as Chile’s coach, a process that took several weeks of negotiation and concludes a three-year period in command of ‘La Roja’ .
Through a public statement, the Chilean Soccer Federation announced that “the technical director Reinaldo Rueda reached an agreement not to continue leading the Chilean National Team.”
“The Chilean Football Federation recognizes and appreciates the dedication, work and commitment” of the coach from Cali, who led the Chilean team since January 8, 2018.
According to local media, in order to finalize his departure from the Chilean team, Rueda will have to pay compensation of approximately $ 500,000 to the federation, less than a quarter of what was originally stipulated in the termination clause of his employment contract, in which the figure was more than two million dollars.
Under the orders of the Colombian coach, Chile played a total of 27 games, of which they won 9, drew 8 and lost 10.
Of the total commitments played, only 10 were official and the balance is 3 wins, 2 draws and 5 losses both in continental tournaments and in the South American qualifiers of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
These results brought Rueda harsh criticism from the Chilean fans.
With Rueda in the lead, Chile took fourth place in the 2019 Copa América in Brazil, while on the way to Qatar 2020 it leaves ‘La Roja’ in sixth place in the South American qualifiers, with only four points.
The former coach of Ecuador and Honduras is in negotiations with the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) to assume the tricolor bench, but there are still some details to be finalized.
Reinaldo Rueda became the main option to lead the Colombian team after the defeats by thrashing against Uruguay by 0-3 and Ecuador by 6-1 on dates three and four of the South American qualifiers, which precipitated the departure of the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz as their coach.
When in doubt as to who will come to the bench of the Chilean team to replace Rueda, the Federation declared that it was “free to seek a new coaching staff, in accordance with the defined guidelines and with the objective of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup. Qatar 2022 “.
Francisco Cagigao, former Arsenal scouts, is already in Santiago to lead the search for the new Chile coach.
