Arsenal have real hopes that defender David Luiz will play again this season.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, which suggests the Brazilian could appear in Arsenal’s season-ending showdown, which could still include a Europa League final.
Luiz has just returned from injury, but was substituted in the 53rd minute during Sunday’s 2-0 win at Newcastle United, with Calum Chambers entering.
A hamstring injury appeared to have ended Luiz’s season and potentially his career at Arsenal, given that he has no contract this summer and may be allowed to leave.
Which Premier League club has had the most coaches?
The injury suffered is not believed to be serious, although it remains to be seen whether he is fit to face Villarreal in the crucial second leg of the Europa League semi-final.
The 34-year-old is a valuable leader at Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta would surely want to have him around during the final weeks of the season.
Ultimately, though, this latest injury blow is exactly why Luiz may be fired this summer. He has only made 17 league starts this season and has only played six times since late February.

Arsenal are not in a position to award substantial contracts to elderly and injury prone players, and Luiz, sadly, now falls into that category.
Sad to say, this may be the end for Luiz in the Premier League. He may return this season, he may fight to play for Arsenal again this season, but the end feels close.
Hopefully Luiz can enjoy one last great moment with Arsenal, possibly with a win in the Europa League final if everything goes the way Arteta would like.
