Man saved from the river

The Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that crews have rescued a man who fell into the river near Wincolmlee's Chapman Street Bridge.

The fire department was called in at 5:55 pm and sent three engines to launch the Beverley boat crew.

A spokesman said, "We rescued a man with inflatable sledges from the water with two involved firefighters.

"The man had managed to hold himself close to a barge, so there was a danger he would run down the river.

"We managed to put the accident aside and hand it over to the waiting paramedics. We had also alerted the Coast Guard and the Humber Rescue, but we managed to bring it out before they arrived. "

The rescue was completed at 17:39 and the state of the man is not yet known at this time.
