'Safety paramount': Road closures remain as west Belfast bomb search continues - Belfast Telegraph

Road closures in Belfast around the Old Golf Course Road area.

In place since Saturday morning, the closure of the Old Golf Course Road and Creightons Road will continue until further notice.

The PSNI is working to establish the location of the item.

Chief Inspector Helen Garrett said: "The Old Golf Course Road and Creightons Road are still closed.

Diversions are in place and I am appealing to the public to follow the diversion and the direction of our officers.

"I understand the implications of this roadmap for the future", "I want to thank drivers and local residents for their patience".

"However, the safety of the community is paramount and we do not want to take any risks.

"Earlier, I have an appeal to the public that anyone traveling through the area should be aware of their own personal safety. That advice still stands this evening. "

"Anyone with information about this incident, or who saw any suspicious activity in area in recent days, is on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 838 of 07/12/18."

The public can also contact independent Charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Local Sinn Fein councillor Stephen Magennnis said: "The road has been closed to the public by the PSNI.

"An impact due to be in the area for hundreds of children has already been canceled.

"Those responsible for leaving a device in the area have brought local people nothing but disruption and chaos.

"If anyone has any information about the location of this device then they should bring it forward immediately to the police."
