The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 is no stranger to leaks, but we never expected our clearer appearance on the back of the next Samsung phablet to come from the tech giant itself. Yet that’s exactly what happened, particularly in the case of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra variant.
This is the big Note 20 – what the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s magnificent 108-megapixel camera, impressive zoom capabilities and a 120Hz LTPO display should have – and these images come to us from Samsung’s Russian website. Samsung has since removed the page, so it appears that it accidentally lost the Note 20.
Initially, scrolling to the bottom of the Samsung Russia page on the Galaxy Note 8 a side profile of what appears to be the next generation Note product emerged. But shortly afterwards the page was removed. The Verge was the first to report on this internal loss.
While we’re just taking a peek at the long-awaited phablet, these images confirm that the large pile of rectangular cameras featured in some prototypes we’ve seen in the past few months. The mocha-like color of the body and frame of the phone transports to that module and the lenses themselves are surrounded by metal rings that draw attention to the optics.
I admit that although I wasn’t a huge fan of the Galaxy Note 20’s aesthetic in previous leaks, it looks really nice here under the favorable light of Samsung’s marketing materials.
Looking closely at the other image, we can see that the S Note signature of 20 is also covered by that chromed texture, echoing the frame of the device offering a refined contrast from the opaque glass back. On the side is what looks like the power button under the volume rocker.
Return to the camera for a minute though. It is evident that the last of the three optics of the line is deeply recessed, with a rectangular-looking prism facing outwards. It looks like another periscope zoom lens, once again similar to that of the S20 Ultra. A flight time depth sensor is probably located on the right, hidden by that pill-shaped black strip.
We don’t know if the zoom features of the new Note will compete with the S20’s 100x “Space Zoom” functionality, but the famous leaker Ice Universe has said in the past that we should expect a maximum power of 50x from this lens and sensor. It is still very good and better than what you get from most phones.
The timing of this oversight by Samsung occurs a few hours after yet another loss apparently confirmed on August 5 as the date on which the company will launch the next generation Note line. On that day there are good chances to also see Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Galaxy Fold 2, as well as some accessories, such as the new wireless earphones and smartwatches.
