It seemed like a simple announcement of the holding of a tournament of the Ecuadorian Football Federation, which last Friday reported that the second edition of the Super Cup, created by that body in 2020, will be played between February 4 and 10. But in the course of the days the contest has generated crosses of controversial statements.
The FEF, through its communication channels, gave details of the new format of the Super Cup, won by the Quito League in 2020. It published dates, schedules, stadiums of the cities (Quito and Guayaquil) where Barcelona would have to play, Liga , Emelec and Independiente del Valle. The final is scheduled for Wednesday, February 10, at 20:00, at Christian Benítez.
But the controversy arose almost immediately. Carlos Manzur, a member of the Ecuaf Fútbol board, described the tournament as “friendly.” And when the presence of electric and black-blue was questioned, he explained that “Emelec was chosen by invitation, each team answered in writing. We talked with the teams and we reached an agreement. They tell me that there was controversy over the choice of teams, there always is ”, he replied.
And although the manager said that the Super Cup is friendly, the FEF defines it as an “official tournament with cash prizes” of $ 50,000, $ 25,000 and $ 15,000 to the first three located. Then Manzur acknowledged that the home run is “official”, but by invitation.
But now Barcelona mentions that it will not compete. “In principle, we agreed to participate in a cup that the FEF puts together in good faith. It already goes through a GolTV theme (sponsor of the Canaries that will not broadcast the Super Cup). It is not a matter of not wanting to go, it is a matter of force majeure “, Aquiles Álvarez, yellow sports vice president, clarified in Caravana.
In Sports area Manzur touched on the topic Barcelona this Wednesday: “Clubs are not forced to participate. They are free to accept or not, what is sought is that they have activity and sponsors are also displayed. I understand that there were already conversations from the clubs to fix the GolTV issue ”. And he added: “Then don’t participate, what are we going to do!”
Álvarez riposted in Caravan: “He (Manzur) does not have to forget that he is there (at the FEF) in Barcelona; he was quota of Barcelona when Francisco Egas was supported (in the elections). Today is not Barcelona’s share, but it should fight for the interests of Barcelona, but he says: ‘If you don’t want to come, don’t come.’ These types of statements are surprising. Instead of joining, they disjoin ”. (D)
