The heaviest rains have started in Pyrenees area and have unleashed in intense electric storms, which little by little have been descending to the area of La Garrotxa, Osona, Pla de l’Estany, Ripollès and the Pallars Jussà and, in fact, it has been in this last region where waterspouts have been detected and hailstorms so spectacular that many people have shared the videos on social media.

More than 156 liters of water per square meter
The storm has been descending from Catalonia North to coastal and pre-coastal, which have been the areas most affected by waterspouts, highlighting the Vallès Oriental, Maresme, Baix Llobregat and, above all, the Garraf, which is where the storm, especially in the municipality of Vilanova i la Geltrú, since accumulations of water of more than 156 liters of water per square meter.
Intense rains and strong storm in Garraf
In fact the downpours have been so strong that it has had to cut the circulation of trains on the line R2 de Rodalies at the height of Vilanova i la Geltrú, although this morning it is already functioning normally. In total, this night, emergencies have received more than 147 calls related to heavy rains, 110 of them due to problems with the Garraf waterspouts, almost all of them Vilanova i la Geltrú.

The majority of calls have been for accumulations of water on public roads and floods in garages and ground floors of various homes. The waterspouts more intense have been detected from 23:00 to 00:00, although the downpours began around 19:00
This Sunday, in general, weather forecasts indicate that the weather will be much calmer, although there will be some downpour in North Catalonia. Even so, the wind will be stronger, especially, in the Ebro Lands, in the Empordà and in the Pyrenees.
