The president of the club, Manolo Campos, stressed that this “is a beautiful day” because “it is a great pride to return to society the affection, support and sensitivity that has been shown in recent times for sport”, on all “in times of pandemic and economic crisis.”

This is the fruit of “the 30-year effort of many people” in a success that “belongs to everyone.”

“We would be very excited to be that women’s team in the Champions League, because no one has played in Spain in the Champions League for more than 10 years,” for which he thanked the Canarian president for his support.

Saray Manzano, the captain of the Siete Palmas CCO 7 Palmas Shopping and Leisure Center Volleyball Club, said she was “very grateful and happy” because “we deserved this recognition and I think now we have to enjoy it”.

Calviño will lower its growth forecast today due to Covid and the delay in European aid | Economy

The harshness with which the third wave of Covid-19 has hit Spain at the start of the year and the delay in the implementation of the Recovery Plan fed with European aid on the way, are weighing down the power of the economic recovery of the country. This was admitted yesterday by the Vice President of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, who is preparing to revise its growth projections today, and in the same way the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (Airef) contrasted it yesterday, lowering theirs.

“We left behind a tough first quarter, which is the main reason why we are going to lower our forecast for this year,” Calviño told Bloomberg TV yesterday, admitting that, although she expected an inertial advance in GDP of 7.2 %, which aspired to rise to 9.8% with European aid, finally growth “may be smaller.” “We think that the second quarter will be a transitional quarter and that we will have a very strong rebound in the second half of the year,” he added.

In this same line, Airef was placed yesterday, which lowered its growth forecast for this year from 8.2% to 6.6% due to three factors: the pandemic, the fall in tourism (which together remain half a point) and the delay in the EU aid plan (which drops 1.1 points).

“Our most pessimistic scenario seems to be materializing because the pandemic situation since November has been much worse than expected,” explained the director of economic analysis, Esther Gordo, adding that the slowdown in the economy at the end of last year it would have followed “a contraction in activity” in the first quarter of 2021 of at least 0.6%. Although the impact of the Covid was more severe in January and February, the de-escalation of restrictions in March would not have been enough to bring the activity to positive territory, maintaining the level of affiliation in December and reaching Easter in a situation of paralysis.

In parallel, Airef assumes that the vaccination rate will not allow tourism to be fully reactivated until 2022, reaching a level of between 30% to 40% of a normal year this summer and 70% at the end of the year. Other organizations, remember, do not expect a full improvement until 2023.

Finally, the Airef reduces from 2.7 to 1.6 points the contribution of the Recovery Plan to GDP growth in 2021, shifting the difference to 2022, when verifying that the investments and reforms financed by the EU will not be launched until the second half of the year. “We are not judging whether or not the government will be able to absorb the resources associated with the plan,” said Gordo, who emphasizes that the review does not modify the expected multiplier effect of community subsidies. What it does is adapt to the calendar that reality leaves behind: one in which the Plan has not yet been sent to Brussels – the Government will send it next week – and in which the community disbursement still has no date.

Improvement of the deficit

In its report on the initial Budgets of Public Administrations, Airef improves, however, its deficit forecasts for 2021, reducing it from 8% to 7.6% after it jumped from 2.9% to 11% in 2020, something better than expected. That rise was due to the effect of the fall in GDP (0.7 points); the loss of collection in an environment of rising pensions and public salaries (2.2 points of GDP); to the battery of measures against the Covid (4.3 points) and to the bill of Sareb, the so-called bad bank, and the sealing of gas wells of the Castor Project (1 point). In turn, this year’s reduction is based on the loss of this last load (1 point); the effect of rising GDP (0.7 points); the recovery of income (0.6 points); and the reduction of costs of the Covid and the new tax measures (1 point). Of course, the deficit could be higher if, as everything indicates, the ERTE are extended beyond June.

In turn, detailed Ignacio Fernández Huertas, head of budget analysis, Airef expects public debt to fall this year from 120% of GDP to 118.7%.

In line with the IMF, Airef urged the government to design a fiscal consolidation plan in the medium term.

1,000 million less for the tax reform

Income and expense. Airef foresees that public income will rise this year to 43.3% of GDP, adding one point for the improvement in activity that compensates for the drop of two tenths due to the loss of collection and another for the changes suffered in the tax reform . In this field, it reduces the collection potential of the anti-fraud law from 491 to 217 million due to the delay in its processing, which is why it also reduces the income from the new plastic tax from 123 to 98 million and from 431 to 215 those of the waste rate. In turn, the 571 million that the tax on diesel would have thrown is eliminated and the tax on sugary drinks is reduced by 19 million because dairy is excluded. As a consequence, the tax reform will leave 2,898 million compared to the 4,002 initially projected (1,104 less). Public spending, in turn, would reach 50.9% of GDP, although the package linked to Covid drops from 47,909 million to 32,602 million.

Autonomies. Airef expects all regions to close 2021 with a deficit lower than the reference rate of 1.1% except Valencia and Murcia. In turn, Asturias, Madrid, the Basque Country; Navarra and the Canary Islands could end up in balance or in surplus.

BBVA breaks record after attracting 2.5 million digital customers in 2020 | Companies

Nearly two and a half million people have chosen digital channels to become BBVA customers in 2020. This figure represents 33.3% of the total new customers achieved throughout the group through their own channels (offices, app, web, ATMs,) and represents a 56% jump compared to new users captured digitally in 2019, explains the financial institution.

Despite the crisis generated by the pandemic, the bank chaired by Carlos Torres assures that it has achieved a new record number of new customer growth in 2020. The bank has added a total of 7.5 million new users worldwide , of which 2.4 million became BBVA customers through the app or the web. This figure represents a 56% jump compared to 2019, and proof of the consolidation of digital capabilities as an increasingly relevant element to boost BBVA’s business.

“Customer growth is one of BBVA’s strategic priorities and these figures validate the group’s efforts to create global programs to develop new digital functionalities aimed at contracting financial products and services,” says David Puente, Head of Clients BBVA Solutions. Currently, BBVA attracts more digital customers in a single day than it did in a full quarter in 2015, he explains. The confinement of the population in different countries has had an influence.

“We have worked with all areas of the bank, from risk to engineering to legal services, to create a customer experience that facilitates the conversion of non-customer users to customers in the simplest and most frictionless way. We have also been able to reuse the software and share learning from one country to another, which has allowed us to be faster and more efficient when it comes to attracting new customers in digital environments in all geographies ”, says Carlos Roldán, head of BBVA Open Market.

In addition, to attracting digital customers, BBVA is committed to integrating them into third-party platforms or channels to reach new users through them.

Both strategies will be one of BBVA’s strategic axes this year. To achieve these goals, the bank ensures that it is preparing to have a greater availability of products digitally (in Spain, practically the entire offer can already be contracted online) and improve its procurement processes, the registration system and streamline credit approval models. Likewise, “BBVA is going to put a special focus on improving customer loyalty with more proactive systems that encourage greater use of all the app’s functionalities,” the entity underlines.

Regarding its integration into other platforms, BBVA looks to agreements with third parties as a great opportunity to continue promoting organic growth in clients. Their plans go through continuing to promote alliances such as Uber in Mexico or Xiaomi in Spain or Telefónica in Colombia.

The toy industry cushioned the effect of the pandemic with a 7% drop in sales | Companies

The toy sector was able to close 2020 with a moderate drop in its turnover in Spain. This was 929 million euros, which represents a decline of 7% compared to the previous year according to the data made public this Monday by the consulting firm The NPD Group.

A fall that from this point of view considers “acceptable”, especially taking into account the forced closures during the strict confinement between March and May and when compared with other sectors of the retail trade, such as textiles, which fell more than 40% during last year.

Precisely these closings have caused a boost in online sales also in the toy sector, growing by 63% until September, the last month with data collected by NPD. In that month this channel represented 40% of all sales, when a year earlier it was 22%, which allows Spain to surpass the French or Italian markets in the weight of electronic commerce of this activity. “Manufacturers and distributors struggled to meet the need for toys of all kinds for all ages, in a year that accelerated the changes that were already underway in the toy sector, such as the omnichannel sales strategy,” he says. Fernando Pérez, CEO of NPD in Spain.

Regarding the Christmas campaign, which accounts for more than half of the sector’s annual sales, the pandemic and calls to advance purchases did not change the usual pattern of the Spanish consumer, since 47.6% of toy purchases were made concentrated in December, a percentage even higher than in previous years. “The campaign accused the deterioration of the economy of many homes, as well as the advance of the virus, which forced the closure of shops in several regions and to limit family gatherings during the holidays, with the consequent impact on the delivery of gifts,” they explain from NPD.

Its analysis of the sector in 2020 also shows uneven growth according to the toy categories. The one that grew the most was puzzles, by 30%, while board games did so by 6% and construction games by 5%. “To liven up the long weeks spent at home, the Spanish opted in 2020 for those products that consume more time, and not only aimed at children,” the report analyzes. Toys associated with summer also had strong growth, 28%, and mannequin dolls, such as Barbies, did 18%.

One of the great engines of toy sales each year is the licensed market, that is, the official products of movies or series that have been successfully released during the year. This branch fell by 6%, below the sector average despite the absence of major premieres. Licenses Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Mario Bross Y Harry Potter they were the most successful.

What is also maintained is that the best-selling toys correspond to mid-range prices, something that already happened in 2019. “The price positioning of the products in the ranking has been declining; the range 30-50 euros seems to be the norm, when recently we found much more representativeness in much higher price ranges ”, points out the general director of NPD Spain, who highlights that Among the 15 best sellers in 2020 are nine from Spanish manufacturers, “which reflects the good performance of the national toy industry.”
