The Port of Cartagena is strengthened at the fair with ‘webinars’

This year’s celebration of Fruit Attraction in digital format has forced the participants to reinvent themselves in digital format to turn the annual meeting of the agri-food sector into a great social and business network. The Port Authority of Cartagena has not wanted to miss this fair in which it participates every year and promotes its facilities through ‘webinars’.

Throughout the entire month of October, the Port has developed a great commercial effort by understanding that sectors such as fruit and vegetables are of great regional relevance. “Aware of its current needs and threats, the Port of Cartagena is currently a strategic alternative for the agri-food export sector of the Region of Murcia, by offering safe and reliable transport routes,” said Yolanda Muñoz, president of the Port Authority .

In the San Pedro Wharf, next to Santa Lucía, is the fruit and vegetable terminal with more than 400 meters in length and 11.25 meters of draft, which houses cold stores with capacity for eleven thousand pallets, and has facilities and plugs for three hundred reefer containers. In 2019, more than two hundred thousand tons were moved in the traffic of fruit and vegetables.

Given the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, which implies an immediate change of scenario to road transport, “we understand that the response to this new situation involves the consolidated experience of maritime transport in the effective management of possible incidents in the border, customs control and the viability of getting fresh products from the Port of Cartagena to their destination, once ‘Brexit’ enters into force. We must become an alternative for the transport of fruits and vegetables in our Region, “the president stressed.

The port facilities are in the process of adaptation so that regional export companies have everything they need to get their products out of their docks, they currently have a container area, RO-RO infrastructures for ro-ro traffic and the railway terminal in Escombreras. For this reason, the president stressed that “we are coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture for the use of the Port as a tool, and the logistical preparation that is being carried out to capture and put into operation flexible connections and that meet the demand so that the products fruit and vegetables mount in the maritime transport ».

The Port of Cartagena stands out for its connectivity with the whole world through direct and feeder lines with destinations and origins in all continents.

The Romans are second tied at three points, but with worse goal difference than the Romanians, who face the Swiss Young Boys.

Milan will face Sparta Prague in search of first place in group H, which is held by Lille.

The French club receives Celtic to try to continue in front of the key.

Arsenal suffered last week to beat Rapid Vienna 2-1 and now host Irish Dundalk in group B of the Europa League.

London and Brussels must find a way out that helps the recovery | Opinion

The EU heads of government yesterday supported the extension of the round of talks that Brussels has with London in order to regulate trade relations between both parties before the end of the year, the date on which Brexit enters fully into force. Despite the Council’s pleasure and the determined European will to do everything possible to close a friendly exit of the United Kingdom from the EU, it seems increasingly difficult to achieve that goal. The Council itself yesterday urged the Commission to design possible unilateral contingency measures of a limited duration if Brexit finally ends without an agreement, and there are already several voices that consider the negative outcome of the negotiations as probable. Both the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and the Italian President, Giuseppe Conte, have warned that the pact with London cannot be reached at any price, while French President Emmanuel Macron openly acknowledged the possibility that the divorce could take place at the bravas.

The EU guidelines for the negotiation have correct and clearly marked red lines: those established in the withdrawal agreement and in the protocols signed by London and Brussels, which remain fully in force and must be respected. The unusual decision of the British Government to promote a law that breaks with some points of the agreement, mainly those related to commercial activity on the border with Northern Ireland, has become a bone of contention with enough potential to burst the long negotiating path traveled so far in London and Brussels.

Europe must stand firm in defending an agreement that has been widely discussed and negotiated with the United Kingdom and that contains the roadmap on which the commercial relationship between the EU and the British must be built. However, and without departing from that framework, which is fully legitimate, Brussels must also do everything possible to avoid a rupture that could seriously damage the European economy, mired in a crisis of historic dimensions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Both the EU and the United Kingdom are enduring the scourge of an unprecedented recession not only because of its intensity, but also because of the extraordinary uncertainty it has sown in all European economies. Faced with a scenario like this, it is necessary more never to call for responsibility and cooperation to design trade rules of the game that will help the recovery of the whole of Europe instead of hindering it.
