Lucas Berengua of the National Meteorological Service explained the climatic incidence in the competition that is being developed in Chaves
The weather has not accompanied the 67th Eugenio Ballester Cup National Sailing Championship, and it is undoubtedly essential for this type of sporting activity in order to determine the tests. In charge of meteorology is Lucas Berengua of the National Meteorological Service, who spoke with LA VOZ DEL PUEBLO and gave details of his role.
“It is a very difficult championship, we have already entered in the last week and we need to validate tests”, the professional began explaining, who about his work indicated: “It is a complicated meteorology, we had an episode of bad weather that prevented the flight for four continuous days, the formation of a center of low pressure at medium levels of the atmosphere caused several days of cloudy skies, very marginal days that everything possible was done to put the gliders in flight, but they did not give the operating times to be able to carry out the tests ”.
But in recent days, the weather has aligned itself with the event, and Berengua anticipated what is coming: “This week there are different pressures, we went to the other extreme, which the high pressure system generates great warming, a very high rise. great temperatures; For example, Monday woke up with 6 degrees of temperature and then it went to more than 30 degrees, and we are going today (for yesterday) to 33 ° of maximum and tomorrow (for today) to 35 °, but that in turn generates a thermal cover that delays all the movements of the day ”. On how these weather conditions affect, he added: “A mixture of strong winds with these covers generates the inconvenience that we had on Monday of not being able to give a valid test because times are running out. Today (yesterday) the wind is lower and despite being on the cover, we have a little more confidence in the opening of the day and in the execution, the sea breeze also helps us a lot, which will generate a cumulus cloud that is very good for sailing and in the next three days we will be able to validate the championship ”.
Lucas Berengua is part of the National Meteorological Service, and when asked how the institute is doing at a general level, he replied: “We are working comfortably, very well. Today we have a 60 percent radarized country in the entire thunderstorm area, which is a very great advance when it comes to remote sensing, with an update three years ago of the world satellite system that allows us to have one image every ten minutes and for the flight to sail this is fantastic, we have basic instruments for measurements that exceed the minimum for which we are working comfortably ”.
Continuing with the detail of the Meteorological Service at the national level, he said: “At the country level, an alert system was implemented a month ago that is by colors, green, yellow and red depending on the phenomenon, it is described and there is a detail of even the parties, in the case of the province of Buenos Aires, that may be affected, which has led to a leap in quality and objectivity when it comes to giving the alerts typical of any meteorological service worldwide ”.
At the end of the talk, Berengua thanked the community, the organizing entity “and the great team of the sailing flight for their trust in our work.”
