The new heroes in the “Star Wars” universe, Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega), are on the run. What is their fate? RTL is now repeating “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. (TVNOW / TM &© 2015 Lucasfilm Ltd.)
The respect can be seen in this film. The respect for history, for the myth and last but not least for the millions of fans worldwide who have fallen in love with “Star Wars” at some point. With “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (2015), JJ Abrams wanted to make a film that is deeply rooted in the tradition of the series. Who logically continues it and who knows how to inspire the older as well as the younger audience. He succeeded. And most of the nearly nine million moviegoers in Germany alone agreed with him. The sci-fi spectacle will now be repeated on RTL.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is not only in terms of its story, but also its style a throwback to the old Episodes IV through VI that laid the seeds for the myth. Much more, and the new film could well be accused of: The authors JJ Abrams, Michael Arndt and old master Lawrence Kasdan make such extensive use of their predecessors that at times the impression is created that they are dealing with some kind of expensive remake . Many classic elements reappear, even the basic structure of the story is similar, sometimes even the same. Subject: There’s a Death Star – and it has to go.
Finn (John Boyega) was once a stormtrooper. Now he’s fighting on the other side, looking for Luke Skywalker. (TVNOW / TM &© 2015 Lucasfilm Ltd.)
The film takes place around 30 years after the sixth part, “Return of the Jedi”. A successor organization to the empire called “First Order” is working on a reign of terror. And again it should be three heroes who take up the fight against evil. The scrap collector Rey (Daisy Ridley), the former stormtrooper Finn (John Boyega) and the pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) go in search of Luke Skywalker. But they’re not the only ones looking for Luke, who has disappeared without a trace. So the trio has to assert itself against the new villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), a person with special skills.
The charm of the old episodes

The film meets the high expectations: It sets an incredible pace. The action scenes line up breathlessly in front of a simply brilliant soundscape. The level and quality of the humor is right. “The Awakening of Power” has the charm of Episodes IV to VI and fits naturally into this parallel world. This is without question real “Star Wars”, just maybe not with the epoch-making size that was remembered from the past.
What JJ Abrams began with the seventh episode, he completed himself with the ninth: In 2019, “The Rise of Skywalker” concluded the now third “Star Wars” trilogy – but the end is far from in sight. The franchise remains a place of longing for fans as well as a reliable money printing machine. After the success of “The Mandalorian”, the streaming platform Disney + is planning further projects, including a series about Obi-Wan Kenobi. Disney and Lucasfilm also have three more feature films in the pipeline. According to the current status, the first is to start in 2023.
