The plans for the next real-life version of a Disney classic are progressing: Jon M. Chu is to direct “Lilo & Stitch”.
Over 1.65 billion US dollars in “The Lion King”, over 1.26 billion US dollars in “Beauty and the Beast” and around 1.05 billion US dollars in “Aladdin”: the real-life films of Disney -Cartoon classics are pure gold for the Mickey Mouse group. No wonder, since nostalgia for the children of yore meets a family experience for a whole new generation.
In the long list of upcoming real-life films, there is also a very special work with “Lilo & Stitch”. The 2002 cartoon was one of the last major movies of its kind produced for the cinema before Disney focused entirely on animation. The movie was followed by direct-to-video sequels and an animated series.

The heartwarming story of Experiment 626 aka Stitch, which was created as an intergalactic killing machine but experiences the warmth of a family on Earth thanks to Nani and Lilo Pelekai in Hawaii, is said to be loud The Hollywood Reporter by director Jon M. Chu this time as a real-life version for fun and excitement.
Chu landed a hit in 2018 with the romantic comedy “Crazy Rich”, but also directed the action film “GI Joe – The Reckoning” and the heist thriller “The Incredibles 2”. The 41-year-old filmmaker also has experience with dance films (“Step Up to the Streets”) and musicals (“In the Heights”), which will certainly benefit him with “Lilo & Stitch”. For Disney he will also direct the pilot of the planned sequel to the fantasy classic “Willow”. The real film is produced by the “Aladdin” team Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich. Who is playing whom in “Lilo & Stitch”?
The live version of “Lilo & Stitch” was first announced as a Disney + exclusive. However, it could also be that Disney will bring the film – if the corona pandemic does not spoil the whole thing – in the cinemas. Stitch, as dangerous as it may be, is small, furry, soft and cute – like Baby Yoda from the hit series “The Mandalorian”, which in turn is seen as a driving factor for the success of the “Star Wars” series. Should Stitch be implemented only half as well for the real version, Disney would have a potential hit movie in its hand.
No actors have officially been confirmed for “Lilo & Stitch”. But we already have suggestions for some characters. If the original is not slavishly adhered to and some of the extraterrestrial beings are also allowed to be human, then Dr. Jumba Jookiba to be embodied by Jack Black. Taika Waititi would be Agent Pleakley, Dwayne Johnson could play Captain Gantu and Samuel L. Jackson would be Cobra Bobo.
Can you assign a quote to the respective character from a Disney movie? You should definitely try this tricky test:
