A nurse died after testing positive for coronavirus, a health commission confirmed.

Gareth Roberts has worked as a nurse at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board sites since the 1980s and retired in January 2015.

He died at Merthyr Tydfil’s Prince Charles Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, the health council said she was an “extremely popular, fun-filled and well-liked person” who survived his wife, son and grandson.

“The staff say he was such a nice and helpful person and that they learned so much from him,” said a health council spokesman.

“He had a lovely way with relatives and always offered the attentive and personal side. He was very much an” old school “nurse.

“He survived his wife, son and grandson. We will miss him very much.”
