The locations of all confirmed coronavirus cases in Wales when 53 new cases emerge in one area

More than half of Wales’ coronavirus cases are found in a health commission.

The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) has 145 cases of Covid-19, more than all the other six combined groups. The numbers released today show that Wales now has 280 confirmed cases, although Public Health Wales has stated that “the real number of cases is probably higher.”

The health committee includes Newport, Torfaen, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Monmouthshire and part of Powys. Public Health Wales has confirmed that there are 53 new virus cases in the area.

The place with the second largest number of cases is the area covered by the Cardiff and Vale Health Council. With 22 new cases, it has a total of 51, only a third of the number on the neighboring health council.

This table shows the amount of cases divided by health advice:

“Virus circulating in every area of the country”

The photos taken last night in Cardiff, Swansea and Newport showed largely deserted streets, although there were still pubs with people. You can see them here. On Saturday afternoon, the government and a head of the NHS delivered a harsh message to those panic purchases in shops and supermarkets telling them that they should “be ashamed” and be more responsible. You can follow coronavirus live updates here.

Dr Chris Williams, director of the incident in response to the Public Health Wales epidemic, said: “89 new cases have tested positive for coronavirus in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 280, although the real number of cases is probably higher. Coronavirus now circulates throughout Wales.

“Three people in Wales who tested positive for N coronavirus are now dead.

“We are working closely with health councils, NHS 111 and the Welsh government to develop systems so that NHS Wales and members of the public have adequate access to the tests. Based on a careful risk assessment, a gradual launch will begin of tests starting from health care workers involved in frontline patients facing clinical care.

“Testing capacity is expanding and is currently a priority for patients, healthcare professionals involved in frontline patients who turn to clinical care and others where recommended by medical directors of the health committee. As our ability test increases, additional guidance will be given on those who are eligible for the tests.

“Members of the public should follow the latest public health advice.”
