A home salon owner who joked about helping her customers during the “mailbox manicure” block found herself receiving messages asking for the service – from a distance to California.
Tasleem Yasir was devastated after being forced to close her home salon in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, so her husband Raja decided to laugh.
While he was busy cleaning the driveway, he reached into the letterbox and shouted, “Excuse me, miss, can you do my nails?”
Then she sat patiently while one in three Tasleem mothers prepared her manicure table and began work on her treatment – all while their eight-year-old son, Mohammed, was recording the carefree moment.
The video proved popular, leaving Tasleem to politely reject requests for similar treatment due to the current blockade.
His hilarious clip has been shared and commented on over 135,000 times and Tasleem, of Belfast, said: “Everyone loves it and makes them laugh. All my friends are stressed about their nails and eyelashes.
“It was really worrying to be a self-employed mom. I’m totally jobless.
“I was very, very upset about the fact that my business was completely closed. I do everything except hair, tan, eyelashes, eyebrows, make-up.
“My clients were all a little pending. I had all their messages asking me to do it for them.
“I just did it to make people laugh. Everyone online looks sad.
“My clients really believed I was doing it and they tried to book an appointment.
“I get requests from all over but I don’t want to put myself or the children of coronaviruses at risk.”
Tasleem was worried after Boris Johnson’s speech to say that the UK would go on lockdown for an initial three-week period, after which the situation will be reviewed.
Feeling “very, very upset” and worried about how she would support her family, Raja decided to try to lift morale and take on the role of client.
The popularity of the video led the nail technician to respond to inquiries from prospective customers around the world, with one person even sending messages from California.
Speaking of her husband, the 40-year-old said, “You understand how to make me laugh. Even if I just cleared the driveway, she slipped her hands and we were laughing.
“My husband is very patient in letting me do my nails. He was quite impressed with the manicure.
“Always try to cheer me up. I’ve lived a lot in life anyway, so always try to make me laugh.
“My poor husband is laughing because I am forcing him to let me do his eyelashes too.
“I’m getting a lot of messages from people saying” it’s fun “or” you made me laugh. “
“Now I’m thinking of making a video about the lashes too. I’m trying to figure out how to convince my husband to be my model again.”
