The schools in Kent will close on Thursday, February 14th.
Due to continued ice and mud on our roads, power outages and maintenance needs caused by the recent winter storms, the Kent School District will be closed according to the district's website. The central administrative office, 12033 SE 256th St., is open. All activities will be canceled and there will be no transportation outside the district.
The schools were closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday because of the snowstorms. The schools will be closed next week during the winter break.
Here is the statement of the district:
Our dedicated maintenance and custody staff continues to look after our buildings and maintenance caused by the storm. These include removing snow, mud and debris from sidewalks, bus stops and parking lots to ensure that all buildings are safe for re-entry. While many areas in our large, geographically diverse district are clear, there are not many.
It is currently not possible to open some and not all of our schools, as both the readiness level of each school to accommodate students and staff and the fact that we can not have our 42 schools on different school calendars are available. We must continue to prioritize the safety of all students and staff across the district, as we make the schooling decisions every day.
We will continue to keep everyone up to date on school closure and delay decisions, and if school calendar changes are made.
Many thanks to all members of our KSD community for their patience as we continue to work to safely reopen all school buildings.
