Bayern Munich’s sporting director has hinted that Arsenal’s goal Jerome Boateng could still win a new deal at the Bundesliga club despite reports that he will be leaving once his current contract expires.

The German has recently stated that he was shocked to see reports linking him to a move outside Munich, and it looks like he might end up staying.

Speaking to Sky Germany, Hasan Salihamidzic made it clear that no concrete decision has yet been made, hinting that he could still stay at the club.

“We all know that Jerome has a contract until June 30, 2021 and we will talk to Jerome and his management at a reasonable time and make a fair decision for everyone,” Salihamidzic told Sky Germany.

“This is not a problem for us at the moment.”

This is a somewhat surprising turn of events.

Bild seemed very confident that Boateng would be allowed to leave when they reported the news last week, but it appears that is not the case.

Boateng seemed surprised by the reports and now Salihamidzic has said that the club will speak to the defender and make a decision at a later date.

Yes, Boateng could still end up dating for free, he has said he’s looking for a new challenge after all, but these comments make it seem like his departure isn’t a done deal.

This situation could be set up for a complete U-turn, as Boateng was originally thought to be already at the Allianz Arena, but it looks like he might now end up staying.

Unfortunately, for the club that has shown interest in Boateng, it seems that his departure from Bayern is not as safe as previously thought.

This is definitely one to watch out for in the coming months.
