The UK’s coronavirus strategy is proving effective according to the deputy medical director, Jenny Harries.
Harries reported in the daily briefing that social distance and self-isolation advice brought some “useful movements” to the slope of the epidemic curve.
The expert was confronted with a specific moment when the country would reach the peak of the epidemic.
He said to the room, “I’m not going to predict the exact timing for the peak of the epidemic.
“The reason for this is that we are just starting to see a bite, if life, in interventions, in social distancing, which have been put in place.
“It would be too early to predict the peak.
“I think we are starting to see some useful slope movement.”
