A woman died after a horror accident involving three cars in Hyde, police confirmed.
It happened on Stockport Road in Hyde, near the Joshua Bradley pub on the border with Woodley, Stockport, around 1:40 pm on Wednesday afternoon.
Police say they were called after a collision involving a BMW, a Kia and a Renault.
Emergency services rushed to the scene with an aerial ambulance seen landing nearby.
A woman was cut by one of the cars, with the firefighters also rescuing a man in another vehicle.
However, the woman was sadly declared dead, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed.
His age or other details are not yet known.
The two men were taken to hospital by ambulance and one of them suffered serious injuries.
In a statement tonight GMP said: “At 1:40 pm today, Wednesday February 26, 2020, the police were called to report a collision of three cars on Stockport Road, Woodley.
“The collision involved a BMW, a Kia and a Renault.
“A woman was declared dead on the scene.
“Two men were taken to hospital, one of whom has serious injuries.
“No arrests were made.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
The road remains closed tonight as officers face the aftermath and begin their investigation into what happened.
Surrounding routes such as Werneth Low Road have become severely congested as a result during peak times.
Commuters were urged to avoid the area, if possible, to use the M67 and M60 to travel between Hyde and Stockport.
