Arsenal have been plagued by poor defense for some time and Mikel Arteta’s team will have to improve in that area to become a top team again.
The Gunners have conceded low-cost goals, which is why although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is one of the Premier League’s top scorers, the Gunners are still struggling to make it to a European spot.
To their credit, Arsenal spent money on several defenders to make them a better team behind them, but very few players entered and that was the required standard.
Chelsea expert David Luiz signed last summer, but the Brazilian was no different.
However, in the Emirates there are some defenders who seem good enough to help the team become an important team and Sky Sports’ Gerard Brand has controlled two.
He named Rob Holding and Kieran Tierney as two decent Emirati defenders who could help Arsenal achieve its goals.
Brand said on Sky Sports: “There have still been some frightening moments against Sheffield United that could have been punished on the one hand with greater confidence, but there are some positive aspects that emerge from Arsenal’s defense.
“Rob Holding was MOTM against Saints; he just did the simple things, which may seem basic but it’s still an improvement, and what really impressed me was the way he commanded the defense and pushed them up when Arsenal attacked, the which reduces the gap between midfield and defense that we have seen so often. I also think he’s a decent passerby in midfield and he gets the game going quickly.
“Kieran Tierney has also been impressive against Sheffield United, so the positives are there, but there is still a long way to go. There is no doubt that there is a lot of work to be done. “
