They authorize increases for pay TV, internet and fixed telephony of between 5 and 7.5% from March

In this way, companies will accumulate an increase of between 10 and 12.5% for the first three months of the year

After new increases for cell phones were authorized last Saturday in February and March, tomorrow a resolution would come out in the Official Gazette by which the companies providing Pay TV, internet and landlines they will be able to perform a price adjustment from March of between 5 and 7.5% which will be added to the 5% authorized in January by the National Communications Agency (Enacom).

In this way, pay TV, internet and fixed telephony companies will accumulate an increase of between 10 and 12.5% for the first three months of the year against the 15% received by cell phone providers (5% in January, plus 7.5% in February and 2.5% in March).

As he could know THE NATION, The increases would not have as a condition that the companies return the excess invoiced in January and February because the Enacom was not notified of noncompliance in these items, which cover some 5000 providers throughout the country, as was the case in the case of telephony cellular.

In this way, Movistar and Claro they confirmed that they will refund in the March invoice the amounts charged during January and February above 5% initially authorized.

“We were in permanent dialogue with the authorities until we reached the agreement that was reached. Our proposal for an increase in February and March was approved and, in March, we will compensate for the difference compared to January,” said Alejandro Quiroga López, director of Regulatory and Institutional Affairs of Claro Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

Asked about the increase applied in January, he said that for the subscribers of that company it was 12.5% on average because it was expected for September 2020. “Most of our clients have a digital invoice, so we are working on compensating the difference with the new values. In March, they would have a very low increase because they receive the compensation for January and / or February if applicable “, added.

On the other hand, he stressed that the new increases of 7.5% and 2.5% are important to resolve the situation in which the companies found themselves. “Sustainability was very compromised because we were with prices frozen for many months and the quarter has high accumulated inflation numbers. It is an important but modest agreement “, Hill.

While, Movistar sources also said that they will make the return on the invoice of both mobile and fixed services and that the increase they had applied in January was 15%.

Finally, Telecom sources stated that will continue to apply the 20% increase because they are protected by the precautionary measure issued by the federal court No. 1 of Córdoba against DNU 690/2020, which declared telephony, internet and cable TV essential and strategic public services in competition and established that prices would be regulated by the Enacom.

“There is no rebellion. There is a judicial measure that protects our procedure. If the Justice ratifies the DNU we will return the amounts. The underlying problem is the change in the framework of the activity, which went from being in competition to being a public service” , they indicated in reference to the declarations of the vice president of Enacom, Gustavo López, who said, in radio statements, that “they will sanction the company and they will charge interest for what they are incorrectly charging users.”
