Broadway alumni Bette Midler, James Earl Jones, Kenny Ortega, Ming-Na Wen and Hans Zimmer will be honored as Disney legends at a special award ceremony at the D23 Expo 2019 on August 23 in Anaheim, California. The award recognizes a host of artists who, as Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Walt Disney Company, explains, "have made a lasting impact on our business and our creative heritage."

Also honored as Disney legends this year are Robert Downey Jr., Wing Chao, Jon Favreau, Barnette Ricci, Robin Roberts and Diane Sawyer.

Midler, who won a Tony Award in 2017 for her outstanding performance in London Hello Dolly!is known for a long CV of live action and cartoon titles released by Disney and its affiliates Down and out in Beverly Hills. Jones has voiced Darth Vader in the Disney-controlled Star Wars films, but may be more related to Disney since he appeared in 1994 as Mufasa The Lion King1998 The Lion King 2: Simba's prideand 2015 The Lionguard: The return of the roar, Jones will revive his performance in the upcoming redesign of The Lion King, produced and directed by Favreau, the new Disney Legends director of 2019.
