A cold snap caused heavy rains, floods and a tornado on the Balearic Islands and the northeastern coast of Spain, the most affected being Valencia and Alicante.

A senior couple was killed when the waters returned their car to Castilla La Mancha, emergency services announced.

Nearby, in the Valencia region, dozens of people had to be evacuated when at least two rivers overflowed.

Some schools have been closed and power outages have occurred in some areas.
