Trump’s reelection campaign has made no mention of the coronavirus pandemic in his Facebook advertisements to date, although the epidemic has killed hundreds of Americans, infected tens of thousands and placed more than a third of the country’s population under ” stay-at-home “orders. The construction of a wall on the border between the United States and Mexico was the most common political issue mentioned in those advertisements, followed by attacks on Democratic Party leaders and presidential candidates, as well as the media.

The attractive advertisement for American Indians began to appear in late February to coincide with Trump’s visit to India. They present photographs of the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, with messages such as:

These advertisements do not require donations, but instead link to a dedicated page on the Trump campaign website entitled Namaste Trump. The campaign’s investment in both election ad units was relatively low and in March they received less than 1% of the total impressions for all Trump campaign announcements.

Although Trump ignored the coronavirus epidemic in his Facebook campaigns, the Trump campaign sent an SMS message about the pandemic to his supporters on March 12. The text message included a link to a “Team Trump Coronavirus update” which read in part: “The safety, protection and health of the American people is President Trump’s top priority right now.
