Two children are believed to have died and 20 injured after a school bus crashed into a stream.
According to police, the bus crashed near Eisenach, central Germany, around 7:30 am local time, and a child was trapped under the vehicle.
The dense fog on the road is thought to have obstructed the driver’s view.
The bus is believed to have slipped off the road and down a slope into the water.
Police spokeswoman Alexandra Hoodt: “According to previous information, several children have been seriously injured.”
The district office in the Wartburg district confirmed the death of two children. Another 20 boys and girls and the bus driver are injured.
The children were taken to a nearby primary school, according to Bild.
Minister Bodo Ramelow said: “The news of the tragic school bus accident comes to me with great dismay.
“There are two dead school children and I cry with parents and relatives. I wish the wounded would heal quickly and we want to help parents.”
