UK: Police arrest protester at covid-19 deniers rally in London

The tension between protesters and the police increased this Saturday, in London, as a man was arrested during a demonstration of skeptics of the COVID-19 in the central Leicester Square.

The protesters tried to avoid arrest before the man was escorted to a police van. The reason for the arrest is not yet known.

The images show protesters with signs that read “Covid-19 equals control” and “Curfew equals Nazification.”

The rally comes after UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Wednesday a new three-tiered alert system to deal with rising numbers of coronavirus infections in England.

The new measures, applicable in London and other cities, including York, will mean that people from different households will not be able to gather inside their homes, the ‘rule of six’ will apply outside, while pubs and restaurants will have to close at 22:00 GMT.

Since the start of the outbreak, the United Kingdom has recorded 689,257 cases of Covid-19 and more than 43,000 deaths related to the disease, according to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
