United Kingdom facilitates work visas for Nobel laureates and award-winning actors

The British government will facilitate the granting of work visas to award-winning scientists, artists or musicians from this Wednesday, through a new immigration policy, based on skills, introduced after Brexit.

Winners of prizes such as the Nobel, the Turing prize for computer scientists, the Grammys, the Oscars or even the Golden Globes will be able to live and work more easily in the United Kingdom thanks to this reform introduced by the Home Office.

The new policy also includes individuals recognized with certain awards in the fields of dance, fashion, architecture and the social sciences.

Your work visa procedures will be simplified and accelerated.

This is part of the new “points-based” immigration system introduced by the Boris Johnson government after Brexit, which aims to attract the country to the “best (talents) based on the skills they can bring, rather than their nationality, ”the Interior Ministry underlined in a statement.

“The winners of these awards have reached the pinnacle of their careers and have a lot to offer the UK,” said Home Secretary Priti Patel. “These major changes will give them the freedom to come and work in our art, science, music and film industries.”

Controlling immigration, especially from the poorest countries of the European Union, was one of the key themes of the Brexit referendum campaign in 2016.

Since 1 January, workers now arriving from the EU no longer enjoy full freedom of movement in the UK, but are treated as non-EU citizens.

The new points system favors brains at the expense of low-skilled workers. To obtain a visa, training, knowledge of English and financial income are taken into account.
